We made a note to return on another day to enjoy the rest of the museum (which is FREE!). (Irfan Khan / Los Angeles Times) By Rong-Gong Lin II Staff Writer. The museum has lots to see, and our preschooler and 9-year-old daughters were both interested in all the hands-on displays. The rockets will join the display of the space shuttle Endeavour at the California Science Center. Overnight Monday into the early hours of Tuesday (Jan.

(Brian van der Brug / Los Angeles Times) In Los Angeles. JanuA complete space shuttle is standing upright for the first time in more than a decade. After the shuttle, we were a bit tired, but we did spend some time examining the air and space part of the museum, which has airplanes and space capsules, and we also saw a bit of the aquarium. Beginning Monday night, the space shuttle Endeavour will be lifted by a 450-foot crane and placed next to its fuel tanks. For the nerds among us (me and my family included), there are lots of factoids spread around the hangar. Eventually, you descend from that room to the outdoor hangar housing the Endeavor. We tried the flight simulator (at $5/person), which is good, and takes you through the Hubble repair mission. When you visit the museum, you are routed through part of the main museum, then into an anteroom that has various shuttle-related items, including tires, toilet (yes, really), items brought on board by one of the astronauts, video of the peculiar experience of astronauts eating in space, and more. Visiting the space shuttle Endeavor is a worthwhile trip (make reservations, at $2 processing/ticket). The Natural History Museum, the African-American Museum, and the Rose Garden are nearby so you can easily make a whole day of your visit. I saw kids of all ages: from toddlers to teens and everything in-between. The rest of the Science Center has a ton of things for kids to do. Quite amazing! I have to admit i became a bit emotional.

During that time I was free to take photos of it without battling the crowd and I was in heaven! (Note: you cannot go back into the exhibition area once you leave it, so if you really want to see that portion you'll have to do it at the onset.) Rumor has it that they'll be displaying it permanently in a vertical position, but for now it is horizontal so you're able to walk beneath it. Honestly, I wasn't too interested in the exhibitions/displays - I just wanted to see the Shuttle! So I quickly scanned the exhibitions and found myself ALONE with the Shuttle for about 15 minutes. I got my ticket for the earliest entry (10:00 a.m. Be sure to secure your tickets ahead of time from their website (tickets are free with a $2 processing fee). I went over to the California Science Center this past weekend to (finally) see the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
